LUH (Leibniz University Hannover) is one of the largest German Universities with a technical background: Engineering, Electrotechnics, Applied Chemistry and Physics.

J. Caro is the Scientific Director of the Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry (IPC). The IPC belongs to the Department of Science of LUH. Research and education at IPC are focussed on materials for energy transformation, transport and storage.

The characteristics of research of IPC, namely materials for energy transformation, transport and storage, are reflected by the teaching activities. The IPC is the carrier of the Master Course “Materials- and Nanochemistry”. In the group of J. Caro at IPC, topics like catalysts and catalysis, gas separation by membranes, membrane reactors for process intensification, solar cells, fuel cells, and the storage of Li ions are in the focus of research. Caro’s group is with 4 PostDocs, 14 PhD students (10 of them are financed by additional money), 5 Master students, 5 Bachelor students, 3 technicians the largest reserch group in the Faculty of Science. There is a broad spectrum of cooperation with industry, in projects of the German Ministry of Science, Technology and Education, and of course, DFG.

Caro was or is involved in numerous successful EU projects such as InsidePores, NEXT-GTL, NASA-OTM.
